How to turn off the Lancia oil change light

The oil change light is on in your Lancia? This indicator shows that an engine maintenance operation is required. If the oil change has not yet been performed, it is recommended to change the engine oil promptly, either by yourself if you are experienced or by consulting a professional.

To reset the Lancia oil change light, it is essential to know the vehicle's year and model, as the method may vary between a manual reset via the pedals or dashboard menu, or an electronic operation using a diagnostic tool (OBD scanner).

What does the oil change light look like on a Lancia?

The maintenance counter present on Lancia vehicles serves to remind you of maintenance deadlines, particularly the engine oil change. The frequency of this operation depends on the type of engine and the oil used. It is generally set at 15,000, 20,000, or 30,000 kilometres, according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

On Lancia models such as the Ypsilon, Delta, Musa, or Thema, this maintenance reminder may appear in different ways on the dashboard:

    • A spanner icon, symbolising mechanical maintenance.
    • An oil can icon with a drop of oil, usually orange or red.
    • A text alert message on the central dashboard screen, if available.
    • An audible signal at start-up that may accompany the light and/or alert message.

It is important not to ignore these indications to maintain engine performance and ensure your vehicle's longevity.

Resetting the oil change light electronically

On Lancia models, it is possible to reset the oil change light and maintenance interval using the klavkarr 210 and 310.

With the klavkarr 210 and 310 scanner, there’s no need to visit the garage; reset the light yourself.

How to perform the service reset?

You can reset the oil change light and remove the service key using the EOBD Facile software included with the klavkarr 210 and 310. It’s simple; follow these steps:

    1. Switch on the ignition. For vehicles equipped with keyless start, press and hold the start button for approximately 10 seconds without pressing the brake pedal to avoid starting the engine. Switch on the ignition
    2. Connect to your klavkarr.
    3. Select the car brand "Lancia".
    4. Then choose your model: "Ypsilon, Delta, Musa, Thema, etc...".
    5. In the selection window that appears, choose "ECU Maintenance Interval".
    6. Then go to the "Maintenance/oil change" tab.
    7. Click the "Execute" button next to "Reset maintenance information" and confirm with OK.
    8. That’s it, you’ve reset the oil change light and maintenance counter.

Manually resetting the oil change light

On certain Lancia models, it is possible to reset the oil change light and maintenance counter manually, without a diagnostic tool. The process is relatively simple and follows the manufacturer’s recommendations. To know the exact procedure, it is advisable to consult your vehicle’s user manual.

In most cases, you just need to perform a procedure with the accelerator pedal or via the dashboard menu to turn off the light. This may vary depending on the model and year of your vehicle.

    For vehicles before 2016:

    Lancia pedals
    1. Close the doors.
    2. Turn on the ignition.
    3. Fully press the accelerator pedal three times within 10 seconds.
    4. Turn off the ignition and wait a few seconds.
    5. Start your vehicle.
    6. The oil change light is now off.

    For vehicles after 2016:

    Lancia steering wheel controls
    1. Close the doors.
    2. Turn the ignition to "On" by pressing the "Start" button without pressing the brake pedal to avoid starting the engine.
    3. Using the steering wheel controls, access the "Service" menu.
    4. Press and hold the "OK" button until the oil reset message appears.
    5. Confirm: select “Yes” or “OK”.
    6. Turn off the ignition and wait a few seconds.
    7. Start your vehicle.
    8. The oil change light is now off.

Beware of the Security Gateway on some recent models

On some recent FCA group models, an electronic protection system called Security Gateway (SGW) may be present. This device limits access to sensitive vehicle functions via the OBD port. It may prevent resetting the oil change light after maintenance.

If your OBD diagnostic tool cannot access maintenance ECUs or reset the light, this blockage may be due to the presence of the SGW module.

Using an SGW bypass may then be necessary to restore access to maintenance functions.
