Why was the SGW introduced?
Stellantis implemented the SGW system to address three main objectives:
- Enhancing cybersecurity
- Protecting critical vehicle functions
- Ensuring regulatory compliance
With the rise of connected technologies (OTA updates, telematics), the SGW acts as a digital firewall, preventing unauthorized access to critical ECUs.
By blocking fault code erasure or warning light resets without proper authentication, the SGW reduces the risk of tampering with vital systems such as braking, steering, and engine control.
The SGW complies with ISO/SAE 21434 automotive cybersecurity standards and aligns with the SAE J2534 Pass-Thru framework. Through the use of an SGW bypass device, controlled access can still be granted to independent repair shops.
