What does the ABS warning light look like on a Renault?

    orange ABS warning light Renault

On Renault vehicles, the ABS warning light is easy to recognise. It is a circle surrounded by two parentheses, with the letters "ABS" in the centre.

This symbol lights up in orange on the dashboard, usually when the ignition is turned on. It should normally turn off after a few seconds.

If it remains lit while driving, it means a fault has been detected in the anti-lock braking system. This warning light may appear alone or alongside other indicators depending on the source of the problem.

Why might the ABS warning light come on?

On Renault models such as the Clio, Mégane, Captur, or Scénic, the ABS warning light may illuminate. This can be caused by various components of the braking system or onboard electronics:

    • Faulty wheel sensors: if they transmit incorrect information, the ABS warning light may illuminate intermittently.
    • Defective ABS module: in case of failure, the warning light remains on and cannot be cleared without repair.
    • Insufficient or contaminated brake fluid: low pressure, leaks, or impurities can trigger the warning light.
    • Low battery: insufficient voltage can disrupt the ABS system's operation.

Clearing the ABS warning light with an OBD scanner

To clear the ABS warning light on your Renault, simply use a diagnostic scanner like our klavkarr 310. This model is compatible with the ABS modules of Renault vehicles and allows you to read, understand, and erase fault codes associated with the warning light.

    1. Turn on the ignition of your vehicle without starting the engine.
    2. Connect your klavkarr 310 scanner to the OBD port.
    3. Launch the application.
    4. Connect to your klavkarr.
    5. Select the brand: "Renault".
    6. Select the model: "Clio, Mégane, Scénic, Captur..."
    7. Choose the module: "ABS ECU" and click "Next".
    8. Go to "Diagnostics" and then to "Fault Codes".
    9. Click "Clear" and then "Ok".

The ABS warning light no longer appears on your dashboard.

If the fault is not truly resolved, clearing the warning light will not suffice: it will reappear as soon as the system detects the issue again.
